Table Designer

Create and change tables without writing DDL

Create and change tables

Set columns, types, primary key, auto increment, defaults, null, foreign keys and indexes. You see the DDL that will run and the checks before saving; dropping a column asks for confirmation. Owner and Admin only.

On the sample data: create a table promotions in Sample shop (id integer primary key auto increment, code text, discount_pct numeric(5,2), starts_on date, ends_on date).

Per database

  • PostgreSQL: the whole DDL runs in one transaction and rolls back together
  • MySQL and Oracle: DDL is saved statement by statement; if one fails, the earlier ones are already applied
  • SQL Server: descriptions (comments) are not saved
  • Oracle: new lower-case names are created in upper case (ORDERS)
  • SQLite: descriptions are not saved; changing a type, null, default or foreign key builds the table again and copies the rows; indexes and triggers come back, but CHECK, UNIQUE and COLLATE in the old definition do not
  • MongoDB: no fixed structure, so no Table Designer
